What a great blog post here:
Really enjoyed the bit where he talks about visiting a park and having a strange feeling of deja vu while he was there because he had seen the same scene in VR first as test footage that was unlabeled.
It would be so cool if people experience places NYC in VR first and then when they go to the physical place they have an immersive feeling that they had already been there before through our app and think about how its changed.
I don’t think our app does that today, but I think a nice way to frame what is a driving force behind the app. Do people feel this way when they look at flat videos/photos of a place and then when they finally get there its like oh wow I’ve been here already?
Watched these two YouTube videos and wrote down some learnings:
- I enjoyed them wearing their Apple Visions like they took off their sunglasses while they were indoors to talk to each other
- Talks about James Hustler and Explore POV and the workflow they have, my high level take aways:
- Uses Canon R5C with Dual Lens
- Color grade and trim to sbs mp4?
- Export goes through Topaz (?) for denoising first
- Is this because the de-noise improves the output from the upscale process?
- And then goes through upscaling in Topaz (?) as well?
- Unclear if its 2x or 4x, but seems like they are talking about 8192 per eye
- Finally the GOAT spatial command by mikeswanson for export file
- One person casually mentioned that he has a developer that makes the app?
- Downloaded their app and it is a player for what I assume is their content distributed (one person mentioned he distributes through google drive?)
- They talk about the URSE Cine and they said maybe next year?
- The Cine has two 7k sensors
- The canon has one lens sensor that is being used by the RF lens’ two fish eye lens
- Aside: Let me just say that there is so much ignored black pixel space with the RF lens. Pixel space that could be used for capturing and distributing more image data but solving that problem is another tier out
- The canon has one lens sensor that is being used by the RF lens’ two fish eye lens
- They mentioned they only have a few working models of it
- No mention of cost
- Exciting to hear them talk about it!
